Farewell to Jerry Connors

Associate Director of Laboratories Jerry Connors was feted at a retirement ceremony on September 12th, with three former CCB directors in attendance as well as current director Allen Aloise and colleagues from across the university. Jerry has been with CCB since 1966, when he came to work as a research assistant in the group of Frank Westheimer.

Jerry’s legacy is evident in the schematics displayed by Allen Aloise during the reception: almost every square foot of space throughout every laboratory in CCB has received custom renovations by Jerry and his team, sometimes more than once. Several more recent projects have earned LEED Gold certification for their use of energy-efficient HVAC systems and building techniques. Besides the LEED distinctions, Jerry’s recognitions include the W. R. Stockwood Award (1st recipient) for service to CCB, the Department of CCB Medal, the FAS Dean’s Distinction Award, several Green Carpet awards (including one this year for the construction and design of the Nocera lab space), and the new lab built to house the Park group, named the Connors Infill.

By vote of the faculty, a slate plaque commemorating Jerry Connors’ 48 years of service to CCB will be installed outside the south entrance to Mallinckrodt.
