Sunney Xie Wins Albany Medical Prize

The Albany Medical Center has announced that Professor Sunney Xie, along with Karl Deisseroth (Harvard AB ’92) of Stanford University, will share the $500,000 Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research for 2015. Both are recognized for their work on new types of imaging that have the promise of accelerating medical discoveries. In particular, Sunney’s work on observing gene expression, and especially genomic alterations, molecule-by-molecule in living cells is cited. The prize will be awarded on May 15th in Albany.

Chair-elect Professor Charles Lieber writes, "This prize is considered America's most distinguished recognition in medicine and is awarded annually to those who have altered the course of medical research. The award pays tribute to pioneering advances that Sunney has achieved in three distinct fields: single-cell biology, coherent Raman scattering microscopy, and single cell genomics. We are all very proud of the advancements Sunney and his coworkers have made and of this well deserved recognition." Congratulations, Sunney!
