The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology offers vigorous programs in undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral studies. Faculty and student scientists together employ state of the art tools to engage in investigations at the molecular level. Considerable opportunity exists for interaction with other departments and groups inside Harvard University, at MIT, and at other research centers in the Boston area.
The Faculty's commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching distinguishes the chemistry course curriculum at Harvard, beginning with Life Sciences/Physical Sciences undergraduate offerings, designed to introduce students to the diversity of modern scientific research. Case studies of relevance to global problems are used throughout the curriculum. More advanced students have access to sophisticated instrumentation in experimental courses including Chemistry 100 which is structured around students' interests. Upperclass and graduate students can choose from a variety of course offerings in areas ranging from genomics to nanoscience to new instrumentation techniques.
