Administration

Our expert staff support CCB laboratories to ensure they run with ease and efficiency and remain in compliance with laws, policies, and safety best practices.

Administration leadership

Our Executive Director, Deana Reardon, is responsible for the department’s communications and administration teams, including all aspects of operations and compliance.

Education and Training

Our education team supports faculty to design and implement new and innovative course curriculum. And, we meet with students to provide academic and career advising to make sure you feel excited and supported throughout your studies.

For undergraduate students interested in concentrating in chemistry, contact Gregg Tucci, Director of Undergraduate Studies. For questions about CCB’s advanced laboratory classes or conducting laboratory research, contact Heidi Vollmer-Snarr, Director of Advanced Undergraduate Laboratories.

For graduate students who have questions about TA/TF appointments, contact Joe Lavin, Associate Director of Academic Affairs and Co-Director of Graduate Studies. For questions on lab rotations, course registration or requirements, and financial support contact Kathy Oakley, Graduate Program Administrator.

Faculty and Academic Affairs

Our Office of Faculty & Academic Affairs team supports faculty-driven initiatives and provides HR and logistical support to our faculty, research, and academic appointees.

We provide administrative support for the Woodward Departmental Colloquium and other speaker series, annual departmental social events, faculty meetings, searches, and committees that support promotion and other vital departmental initiatives.

We also field questions concerning the academic appointment and reappointment process, visa sponsorship, payroll, taxes, maternal and paternal leave, and health and University benefits.

Contact Joe Lavin, Associate Director of Academic Affairs and Co-Director of Graduate Studies, for assistance with academic appointments or visa sponsorship

OR Felix Negron, Associate Director of Administration, for help with payroll, taxes, leave, and other HR-related matters.

Finance and Sponsored Research

Our sponsored research team provides faculty with information on internal and external funding sources, guides them through the pre- and post-award processes, and offers expert advice on grant requirements and policies. In close collaboration with our Finance team, our sponsored folks also adhere to sponsor financial reporting requirements. These teams work closely with Harvard’s Office for Sponsored Programs and Research Administration Services.

Contact Elizabeth Bean, Associate Director of Finance & Research Administration, for information on CCB and Harvard sponsored research and general spending policies and guidance on purchasing (e.g., lab supplies). Liz is an essential resource for department-wide budgetary and financial integrity, and is responsible for the structuring all gift, endowment, and unrestricted fund accounts.

OR Amanda Ellenwood, Assistant Director of Research Administration, for information on submitting grant applications, pre- and post-award management, and financial reporting for sponsored projects.

In close collaboration with our central finance team, our faculty support staff manage most financial transactions for individual labs.

Personnel and General Administration

Our team supports our faculty and managers to hire and manage temporary, term, and permanent staff employees to join our CCB team. We develop and post staff positions; assist hiring managers to interview and select candidates; process staff and student employee appointments and personnel actions; orient new hires; manage payrolls, salary increase and performance evaluation processes; and provide guidance on applicable FAS and University human resources policies.

We also manage department operations; schedule conference rooms; and work with faculty and staff to manage phones, mail services, shared copiers, furniture, facilities access and other departmental resources in support of the Bauer Laboratory and Sherman Fairchild Building work environment.

For all hiring and employment matters for CCB staff, contact Felix Negron, Associate Director of Administration.

Michael Paterno, Senior Facilities Manager, manages our laboratory and building space. Our Science Safety Officer, Mathieu Lalonde, ensures our researchers follow proper safety procedures and adhere to Harvard and Cambridge, MA policies. He runs safety trainings once a month.
