Professor Ian Seiple, University of California, San Francisco, "Fully synthetic routes to unlock natural product potential", Woodward CCB Departmental Colloquium.

Abstract: Many classes of natural products have tremendous potential as therapeutics or as biological tools but have structural liabilities that limit their utility. Our lab uses modular chemical synthesis to enable systematic modification of promising natural products to overcome such liabilities. We use structural data (cryo-EM or X-ray) to inform structural changes to improve potency, increase chemical stability, and reduce pharmacological liabilities. In this talk I will discuss several examples of this approach applied to molecules with anticancer, antibiotic, and antiviral properties.
