CCB Community Award

This spring CCB launched a new award, the CCB Community Award, to recognize the immense efforts that are regularly being undertaken to develop a more vibrant community among the department's students, faculty and staffers and other community members. This award will be given on a quarterly basis to two individuals in our community who go above and beyond to improve our department and make CCB a great place to work and learn.

Our first winner--Ally Freedy, Chemical Biology Ph.D. '22-- has been described as an empathetic and great leader. Ally has also been credited with setting an amazing path for Harvard Women in Chemistry (HWIC) and making a huge impact in our community.

Ally described one of her favorite community-building experiences at CCB:

One of my favorite memories from my time at CCB was helping to plan the HWIC Summer BBQ in September 2021. This event was the first in person event that was hosted at CCB during the COVID19 pandemic. It was such a joy to see the community come together for food, drinks, lawn games and just to spend time together after such a long time apart! People from all different labs were able to chat and have a good time, after over a year of avoiding in person contact with one another. It was amazing to see the hard work of the HWIC party planning committee pay off in such a big way. At this event, I could really feel the warmth of the CCB community and came away feeling blessed to be part of such a vibrant community of bright and kind individuals!

After graduating with her PhD from CCB, Ally will continue her studies at Harvard Medical School, where she expects to earn an MD in 2024. Thank you Ally for all your work!
