HWIC+ celebrates Women in STEM

On March 8th, HWIC+ organized a casual bagel and coffee breakfast to celebrate International Women's Day and organize a swag pick-up (HWIC+ branded sweatpants). The event enabled attendees to socialize and form connections in a casual environment.

"International Women's Day is an important event to celebrate the achievements of women, including in the field of chemistry, while acknowledging the many barriers that women still face around the world. Increasing diversity in science not only supports women in the field, but also positively impacts the science," said Sophie Shevick, Co-President. "Therefore, the inclusion and support of women in STEM fields is a goal we should all share and strive towards!"

The group has recently changed its name to HWIC+, adding the "+" sign.

"We've made this change to more accurately represent our goal to be an inclusive community and a platform for all who may be marginalized on the basis of gender," according to HWIC+'s website. "We acknowledge that this includes cis and trans women and non-binary people.  Therefore "WIC+" has been added to emphasize that we welcome anyone who supports our mission."
