Undergraduate Teaching Program hosts Staff Training & Appreciation Dinner

On Friday, January 26, CCB's Undergraduate Teaching Program hosted its spring staff training session and appreciation dinner. Chemistry Teaching Fellows and Peer Study Leader act as catalysts, lowering the activation energy required for students to achieve their own learning as they progress through their chemistry journeys. The most effective teachers are the ones who can help students go far while saying and doing very little for the students. The evidence is clear: students learn best when they engage in active learning by working through problems, rather than passively listening to explanations.

During the training session, staffers reviewed essential lab safety practices, learned about the department’s teaching and learning goals, and recognized the Fall 2023 winners of the CCB Certificate of Distinction in Teaching. In an interactive session, students worked with colleagues to strategize about how they want to run their office hours/helprooms this semester. In addition, students got a chance to strengthen their coaching and facilitation skills  through interactive discussions and scenarios. Facilitated by the Bok Center and Head TFs, students were also equipped with effective, research-based strategies for helping all students learn.

After a HGSU oritentation, staff were invited to a and appreciation dinner and reception at the Center for the Environment.
