In this fourth issue, "Rediscovery," we focus on acknowledging and honoring the contributions of current and past chemists. Understanding the contributions of underrepresented chemists is not just a matter of historical study, it is a strategic imperative for future success. Diverse perspectives fuel innovation by introducing new ways of thinking and problem-solving. By amplifying the voices of chemists who faced obstacles, we seek to foster an environment of open enquiry that empowers future generations to pursue their passions and research. As such this issue includes historical profiles along with long-form interviews and profiles of current community members to convey their stories and unvarnished perspectives.

Over the last few years, CCB has lost three of its most esteemed and beloved faculty members—Richard H. Holm, David A. Evans, and Yoshito Kishi- in this issue we remember their contributions to chemistry and to our community.

Looking to the future, this issue shares some of the most astonishing advances made by our labs over the last year. You will learn about a breakthrough in porous liquids, a new gene-editing technique, artificial cilia, slowing leukemia, and the relationship between inflammation and cognitive impairment.

In a new section, we highlight the potential impact of CCB research on industry by reporting on businesses supporting the development of technologies based on research by community members. Finally, you will learn about two new initiatives, the department’s high school summer skills lab program and our undergraduate research symposium.

With this Magazine, we aspire to highlight the work of our faculty, their research labs, and the CCB community. All our achievements were made possible with the support of our partners within Harvard University, as well as those in academia, industry, and government. We hope these stories will foster new collaborations, career paths, and ideas, as well as inspire the next generation of scientists.

Please enjoy reading the research advances, student, faculty, and staff profiles, and exciting breakthroughs within these pages. Should you have any thoughts, questions, and ideas for next year’s edition, please feel free to contact: yahya_chaudhry@fas.harvard.edu
