Emily Balskus investigates a microbial menace

Emily Balskus, the Morris Kahn Associate Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, has discovered a predator among our ususally symbiotic microbiome. With collaborator Federico Rey, an assistant professor of bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her Lab identified a specific strain of E. coli that consumes a valuable nutrient in our gut: choline.
